Learning @ WPHS
At Wentworth Point High School, we are committed to excellence in classroom practice. We believe every student has the right to learn in a calm, orderly environment, where expectations are clear and teachers use proven, evidence-based strategies to help students succeed.
Our students agree. In the 2026 Public Schools Survey, they rated our teaching above the NSW average, including explicit teaching, classroom management and feedback.

Our Curriculum
At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.
Stage 4
In Years 7 and 8, students study a broad range of subjects that build the foundations for senior learning. Each subject is listed as the number of 75 minute lessons per fortnight (slight changes to be made for 2027).
WPHS Curriculum Overviews
Interested in what our students are learning? These Curriculum Overviews provide an outline of the content being taught each term in Years 7 and 8.
Assessment Schedules
The following Assessment Schedules are provided for parents at the start of each term. They outline when tasks are due in each subject, and the expectations for the work to be completed at home.
Showcase
Showcase is our Year 7/8 elective program where students dive into hands-on projects built around their own interests and passions.
Across the year, students choose from a wide range of courses — from Designing 2D Games and Aquaponic Systems to Songwriters Workshop, Digital Photography, Documentary Filmmaking and more — giving them the chance to explore new skills while building connections across subjects.
Along the way, students develop teamwork, critical thinking and independent learning skills that will support them as they move into senior study.
The program culminates in a community Showcase, where students present their work and celebrate their achievements with classmates and family.
Stage 5
In 2027, our first cohort will move into Year 9 - a milestone for both our students and our school. Below is an outline of the curriculum they'll be studying. Each subject is listed as the number of 75 minute lessons per fortnight.
Stage 5 Electives
Choosing electives is an exciting part of Stage 5. At Wentworth Point High School, we encourage students to select courses based on their genuine interests, strengths and curiosity — not on what they think they "should" choose for future pathways or careers. Students engage more deeply and succeed more often when they're genuinely interested in what they're learning.
Stage 5 is a time for exploration. It's a chance for students to try new courses, discover new passions and take full advantage of our facilities through practical and creative learning experiences.
This reflects our school motto, Courage to Grow, Strength to Connect - stepping outside their comfort zone to try something new, while connecting more deeply with their learning, peers and teachers. The choices made now don't lock students into a pathway for Years 11 and 12; instead, they help students better understand their strengths and preferences for the future.

At our school, students can take part in special religious education (SRE) or special education in ethics (SEE) classes, depending on what’s available. These classes are delivered by approved providers.
At WPHS, SRE is delivered on Tuesdays, 10:10-10:40 am for Year 8, and 1:00 - 1:30 pm for Year 7.
Students who do not participate in SRE or Ethics will engage in alternative meaningful activities. In Year 7, this will involve silent reading.
The following SRE classes are offered at Wentworth Point High School:
- Combined Christian is provided by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. The curriculum is based on Good News about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of our Christian life and culture and can be found at https://www.youthworks.net/sre/curricula. At our school, we give the right support to help gifted learners to grow and do their best.
We notice these students early. They may learn quickly or show strong skills in creativity, leadership, problem solving or sport. We help them stay challenged with lessons and activities that match their strengths.
