Sport and Co-curricular

All students in Years 7-10 in NSW Department of Education schools must be provided with opportunities to participate in 150 minutes of physical activity each week. This is provided through both weekly school sport and physically active lessons in PDHPE.

  • Weekly sport at Wentworth Point HS is timetabled for Tuesday afternoon.
  • Students may wear their sport uniform to school on this day.
  • Sport will run from 1:00-2:45pm, though some students may leave for their venue between 12:30 and 1:00pm if they play Grade Sport.
  • A range of sporting activities will be made available to students, including both Grade Sport (competing against other schools in the Northern Suburbs Zone) and Recreational Sport.
  • Depending on the sport, there may be a cost involved to families to cover hiring of buses and venues. Grade sport students will need to bring their Opal Card every week. There will be a range of sports available with no cost.
  • Students must pay for their sport prior to their participation in the sport

GRADE SPORT

  • Grade sports are played against other schools in the Northern Suburb Zone.
  • All sports for Under 14s are played at Meadowbank Park.
  • Depending on the level of interest, some sports may require selection trials to select a team.
  • Students will travel to the venue via Ferry and use their own Opal cards to do so.
  • Competitions are split into two seasons – Summer and Winter.
  • Students must commit to playing the full season of the competition.

Representative Sport and Knockout Teams

As many of the Representative Sport opportunities and State Knockout competitions are open to all ages, there will be few opportunities for students to participate in these teams in the first 1-2 years of the school.

If students are talented in particular individual sports (for example, tennis, badminton, diving, gymnastics), they should inform the PDHPE faculty who will keep students abreast of these opportunities.

Opportunities for participation in co-curricular music are already in place at WPHS. This includes a Percussion Ensemble and Choir.

Percussion Ensemble: 7:30-8:30am Wednesdays

Choir: 3:20-4:20pm Wednesdays

As the school continues to grow, there are plans for more ensembles (for example, a concert band) and the possibility of private lessons for certain instruments using the school facilities. These lessons will not take place during class time.

Opportunities for participation in Visual Arts creative enrichment after school is available at WPHS. Students can sign up for a term by paying a fee which covers materials. Places are limited.

Students will extend their  knowledge and skills in a range of media working both on individual projects and collaborating on artworks for our school.

Art Club: 3.20- 4.20pm Thursdays

As the school continues to grow, there are plans for further Creative Arts opportunities.

Students are invited to participate in the Debating Club on Thursday mornings from 8:15am.
